Beautiful Boy is based subsequent to reference to the memoirs written by Nic Sheff and his father, David Sheff. Chalamet stars as the former, a youth who spirals into meth addiction. Carell plays David, who struggles to reach out to his son and viewpoint his addiction apropos. The supporting cast includes Amy Ryan and Maura Tierney.
IndieWires Eric Kohn praised the powerful and haunting performances by Chalamet and Carell in his evaluation out of TIFF. Chalamet was nominated for his first Oscar earlier this year behind his as well as a role in Call Me By Your Name made him a contender for best actor. Following Beautiful Boy, Chalamet is set to star in David Michds The King and Greta Gerwig’s Little Women.
Starring Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carrell as a father-son duo figuring out how to handle their relationship in the midst of his son’s addiction, the movie is based on a memoir written by a real-life father, David Sheff. In the book Beautiful Boy, David writes about his son, Nic, who experiments with drugs (specifical meth) in his college years, until the experimentation becomes an addiction. At the same time, Nick would sit down to write a memoir from his perspective, called Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines(Nic also wrote for the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why). Both of these accounts of these intense times were used to create Chalamet and Carrell’s complex characters. (They also worked with the Sheff’s.)
